Rockpool Bar and Grill by Neil Perry

Your classic steakhouse in a beautiful Art Deco building, funnily enough also named after our pad in Cape Town, Mutual Heights Building. And on top it has a very similar architecture. The menu stays the same and lacks a bit innovation.
Come here for the super classics. I tried a few starters over the visits and they are all a bit boring, except for one. The Squid and Pork Belly. This is a solid choice.

But what you really come here for is the Steak. Australian Blackmoore Wagyu Cooked on the fire with great sides. The potatoes, the corn and the brussels sprouts are worth considering. Béarnaise sauce was a miss…served as a espumma I was a bit disappointed. One thing I must mention of course, their vast excellent wine list! Where else would you find a large selection of Wendouree Estate wines on the list. I looked twice already at these wines in previous visits and have 3 bottles at home waiting for another 10 years at least. ( Check out my post on this wine ) I couldn’t resist my curiosity and ordered the Malbec 2005 from this winemaker….just stunning!! Expensive but worth every penny. The Shiraz from these guys is even more expensive!

Came here twice before already, I must say that after the third time the appeal to come back is diminishing slowly but if your looking for meat and red wine, this place definitely deserves a visit.
